Creating .dsnd Files with Voxengo AcuDrums

This page explains in detail how you can create dsnd files from Voxengo AcuDrums drum samples, http://www.voxengo.com/group/drum-samples/.

Prerequisites

You need a tool to batch convert 48 KHz wave files to 44.1 KHz wave files. A free tool that works well on Windows is Voxengo r8brain

Another powerful tool (not free) that can be used is SoundForge.

Download and prepare

Before conversion to dsnd files, you need to reorganize the files and create a directory structure such that you have 1 directory per zone.

For example I bought the BlackWood 1465 snare; the non-dampened directory contains sub-directories for different zones/stick types and variations. The samples for center zone, american hickory sticks are organized in 5 sample variations, located in 5 sub-directories:

SNARE 1465 BR-TBB-A S CNTR 1 to SNARE 1465 BR-TBB-A S CNTR 5

In order to create a dsnd file, you need to put all sample variation wave files into 1 single directory. I.e. you need to create a new directory and copy all wave files in the CNTR 1 to CNTR 5 wave files to this directory.

For hihat EDGE files, the organization is a bit more complicated, as you need to create one directory per openness level.

Generate dsnd files

Using DSoundTool, you can generate a dsnd file from the resulting wave file as described in Generate .dsnd Files. Use the "Many .wav files, 1 sample per file" option.
